Your hearing test - what to expect

Having a hearing test with Amplify Hearing is easy and stress-free. Whether it’s your first hearing test or your annual check-up, our experienced hearing care professionals are here to guide you through the process.

  • First, we’ll get to know you and discuss your concerns.
  • Next, we’ll check your ears and test your hearing.
  • We’ll explain your results and advise you on your options.
  • We can demonstrate available hearing aids and help you decide which is best for you.

The non-invasive and painless hearing test typically takes about an hour and simply requires your focus to hear quiet sounds.

Apart from listening, that’s about as hard as it gets! Find your nearest practice to get started.

Who can get a hearing test?

Hearing loss can occur at any age, but becomes more common with age. We recommend having an annual hearing test after age 55, or if you experience difficulty hearing at any age.

Getting to know you

When you schedule a hearing test with an Amplify hearing care professional, they will conduct a step-by-step evaluation of your hearing health, address any worries you may have, and answer your questions about hearing solutions.

Your clinician will take into consideration your hearing concerns and determine the best solution to improve your hearing. We recommend bringing a family member or friend to support you during your hearing test.

Checking your ears

During your hearing test,  your hearing care professional will carry out a thorough evaluation of your ear health.

They’ll use an otoscope to examine the inside of your ears, searching for any blockages, ear wax build-up, or infections that might be impacting your hearing. If any issues are detected, they can then be investigated.

Testing your hearing

To determine if you a hearing loss, an Amplify hearing care professional will examine your hearing ability.

During the hearing test, you will be provided with headphones or ear inserts in a quiet environment and will be presented with a series of sounds. All you need to do is press a button when you hear a sound, giving your hearing care professional an understanding of your ability to hear different sound levels and pitches. The test will also include listening to words and sounds at varying volumes, pitches, and intensities, simulating everyday conversation.

You are welcome (and encouraged) to bring a family member or loved one to the hearing test.

Talking through your results

Once your hearing test is complete, your hearing care professional will share the results with you by showing you an audiogram – a graph that plots your hearing. The audiogram will show you whether you have any hearing loss, and if you do, the level of loss, which can be mild, moderate, severe or profound.

If, after conducting a thorough hearing test and hearing health check, our hearing care professional finds you are suffering from hearing loss, we can help you choose the best hearing aid solution or treatment for you. Our hearing care professional will make recommendations from all the leading brands, based on your individual hearing loss, your lifestyle, technology needs and your budget.

Once you’ve decided which hearing aid suits you best, we will schedule you in for a fitting appointment to fit your personalized hearing aid, including custom-made models, and talk through your rehabilitation and how to get the best from your new hearing device.

Demonstrating the hearing solutions available

Your hearing care professional will demonstrate the level of hearing you could achieve from your various options. You are under no obligation to purchase a hearing solution, and the advice presented to you will be transparent and unbiased.
